On October 1st, the first day of National Day (Founding Anniversary) in China, an accident occurred where a man who climbed onto the roof of a high-speed train was electrocuted.
According to multiple Chinese media outlets, the accident occurred at Liuzhou Station in Liuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Around 0:40 PM on the same day, a male passenger climbed onto the roof of train D1884, which was stopped at the platform, and was electrocuted by the high-voltage current from the overhead lines.
In the video footage captured at the scene, the man can be seen lying on his back on the train roof, convulsing, and sparks flying can also be observed.
According to an announcement from Liuzhou Station, the man suddenly and without permission climbed onto the roof of the train from the coupling section, and after being electrocuted and losing consciousness, he fell onto the platform. Furthermore, the man was later transported to a hospital, and as of now, 'his life is not in danger.'
According to China's railway platform '12306', the train was bound from Liuzhou to Guangzhou South and was originally scheduled to depart at 0:48 PM, but a delay, believed to be due to the accident, occurred. A detailed investigation and response regarding the accident are ongoing.
Chinese netizens commented with remarks such as: 'Such a ridiculous thing?', 'He was lucky (to survive).', 'Why did he climb up there in the first place?', 'He probably just wanted to see the scenery.', and 'Fortunately, he's safe. If he had died, his family would have demanded compensation from the railway bureau and caused a huge fuss.'
Additionally, there were many astonished comments such as: 'Can he really survive this?', 'Looking at the video, his clothes seem burnt, but did he really survive?', 'And it looks like he fell headfirst onto the platform.', and 'He'll probably die in a few days anyway. I can't believe he's still alive after something like this.' (Translation/Editing: Kitada)
