The latest Chinese drama "Irreplaceable," which recently began broadcasting and streaming, is off to a strong start, topping the rankings on Netflix Taiwan and securing the No. 1 viewership rating on television.
"Irreplaceable," starring Zhao Jinmai (趙今麦) and Wei Daxun (魏大勛), began broadcasting and streaming on the 28th of last month on state broadcaster CCTV, Youku (YOUKU), and Netflix. On CCTV, it not only secured the No. 1 viewership rating in its time slot on the first day of broadcast, but also debuted at No. 1 on the daily rankings on Netflix Taiwan, where three episodes were released on the first day.
This summer, among Youku dramas, "Early Spring Brightness," starring Jing Boran (井柏然) and Sun Qian (孫千), became a hit and was the first Chinese drama to enter the top 3 of Netflix's global weekly rankings. "Irreplaceable" is a work that depicts "workplace + romance," similar to "Early Spring Brightness." While "Early Spring Brightness" prominently featured office romance with strategic maneuvering, "Irreplaceable" portrays the male and female protagonists approaching each other while harboring ambitions and ulterior motives. Although the styles differ, it is drawing attention as to whether it will become a hit following "Early Spring Brightness."
The protagonist, Xu Chi (Zhao Jinmai), after graduating from university, dives into the highly competitive consulting industry to buy back the old house her deceased mother left behind, with the belief that "I will never be someone else's substitute in life" and overcoming her emotional scars. There, she meets Ye Xinzhi (Wei Daxun), a man who is pursuing a revenge plan due to past wounds. In the fierce business world, the two become bound by multiple layers of relationships: boss and subordinate, and even business rivals.
Furthermore, "Irreplaceable" is a work by Taiwanese director Chen Mingzhang (陳銘章), who has produced numerous hit idol dramas, including "Fated to Love You." The original screenplay is by popular screenwriter Zhang Wei (張巍), who has worked on Chinese historical dramas such as "A Dream of Splendor." This marks their first collaboration since the 2010 drama "Du Lala's Promotion." (Mathilda)
