According to the "2025 Statistical Communiqué on the Development of Civil Affairs" released by China's Ministry of Civil Affairs on September 30, the number of marriages in 2025 was 6,765,000 couples, a 10.8% increase from the previous year, and by age group, those aged 25-29 were the most numerous. This was reported by Chinese media outlet Yicai.
Looking at the age breakdown of people who married in 2025, 1,734,000 were aged 20-24, 4,990,000 were aged 25-29, 2,900,000 were aged 30-34, 1,560,000 were aged 35-39, and 2,346,000 were aged 40 or older.
In recent years, marriage and childbirth at an appropriate age have been actively promoted in China, and the development and improvement of support systems are underway. As part of this, the convenience of submitting marriage registrations has significantly improved. With the enforcement of the revised "Marriage Registration Regulations" on May 10, 2025, regional restrictions for submitting marriage registrations were abolished, making it possible to complete procedures nationwide. It is now possible to get married while traveling, and many cities and tourist destinations are implementing initiatives that combine marriage registration with tourism.
Furthermore, the locations where procedures can be completed have diversified, with marriage registration service centers appearing in some regions at places like parks, tourist spots, commercial facilities, subway stations, cruise ships, music events, banks, libraries, museums, hospitals, and highway service areas.
In addition, there are movements such as extended marriage leave and the provision of incentives. For example, Lüliang City in Shanxi Province is providing 1,500 yuan (approximately 35,000 yen) to couples who register their marriage in the city, where both parties are first-time spouses and the woman is under 35 years old. Furthermore, many regions, such as Hangzhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, and Wuhu in Anhui Province, are reportedly distributing marriage-related coupons to newlywed couples.
