The "15th Five-Year Plan" for New Battery Industry Development, unveiled on the 28th by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and six other authorities, put forward the goals of achieving small-scale practical application of all-solid-state batteries and a cycle life of 15,000 for long-life lithium batteries by 2030, China News Service reported.
New batteries refer to efficient electrical energy storage and conversion devices or systems that take new mechanisms, new materials, new structures, and new processes as core innovation directions. Lithium batteries, sodium batteries, and redox flow batteries are typical examples. They possess typical characteristics such as rapid technological evolution, broad application scope, and strong spillover and driving effects.
According to the plan, by 2030, the scale of China's new battery industry will steadily expand. The innovation capabilities of the entire supply chain will be continuously strengthened, and new breakthroughs will be achieved in advanced electrode materials, new electrolytes, and high-performance auxiliary materials. Significant progress will be made in the R&D of new-system batteries, small-scale practical application of all-solid-state batteries will be realized, and the cycle life of long-life lithium batteries will be set at 15,000 cycles. The product defect rate of major enterprises will reach the PPB (parts per billion) level.
At the same time, by 2030, the construction of application ecosystems across all scenarios will be accelerated, and the integration and innovation of new battery technologies with clean energy and energy consumption terminals will be accelerated. This will powerfully support the evolution and upgrading of smart terminal products, and electrification in fields such as automobiles, ships, aviation, smart robots, construction machinery, and agricultural machinery. In addition to fulfilling the needs for the construction of new power systems, it will further expand energy storage application scenarios on the power generation side, power grid side, industrial parks, data centers, and so on.
