China's "Beidou" satellite navigation system-related industries are expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan within 5 years.
According to China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), in China, by 2025, the total output value of industries related to the "Beidou" satellite navigation system exceeded 629 billion yuan (approximately 14.7815 trillion yen). The number of companies and institutions involved in this industry surpassed 30,000, the number of employees exceeded 2 million, and application scenarios and scale of application continuously expanded. By the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), the scale of the industry is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan (approximately 23.5 trillion yen). This was reported by People's Daily Overseas Edition.
According to Li Chao, Deputy Director of the Policy Research Office of the National Development and Reform Commission, in the transportation sector, 12 million commercial vehicles nationwide are equipped with the "Beidou" system, and high-precision lane navigation services cover over 99% of urban and rural roads, supporting safe and smooth travel. In the agricultural sector, over 3.5 million terminal devices equipped with the system are already in use, applied in scenarios such as assisting agricultural machinery operation, agricultural machinery work, and drone-based pesticide spraying, accelerating the transformation and development of traditional agriculture into smart agriculture. In the marine fishing sector, over 70,000 fishing vessels are already equipped with the system, providing services such as distress alerts, emergency search and rescue, dynamic supervision and management of fishing vessels, and short message communication at sea, becoming the "eyes that see well" and "ears that hear well" for fishermen at sea. The cumulative number of people rescued has exceeded 10,000. In the energy sector, the high-precision timing services provided by the system, with an error of less than 20 nanoseconds, are widely applied in scenarios such as monitoring the status of wind turbine generators, monitoring mine slopes, and patrolling oil and natural gas pipelines, serving as a source of accurate time to support the safe and stable operation of power grids.
The system not only empowers various industries but also permeates households. In China, over 1.4 billion smartphones, 50 million electric vehicles (EVs), 14 million shared bicycles, and 160 million wearable devices are equipped with the system's positioning services, establishing a service system that covers all scenarios, from daily commuting to emergency response, benefiting hundreds of millions of people. Furthermore, the system is accelerating its overseas expansion and pace of global service provision. Related products are exported to approximately 140 countries and regions worldwide, deeply integrating with the "Belt and Road" joint construction cooperation system, and providing services to participating countries such as infrastructure safety monitoring, natural disaster warnings, and surveying and mapping for major engineering projects, continuously bringing benefits to the world.
