On September 27, 2026, comments from two Chinese players who competed in the women's singles table tennis final at the Nagoya Asian Games were introduced on China's SNS Weibo and drew attention.
The Weibo account of Chinese media outlet China Youth Daily wrote that Wang Manyu (Wang Manyu) won the gold medal and Sun Yingsha (Sun Yingsha) won the silver medal in the final, and both players gave interviews after the match.
According to the account, Sun revealed that she felt her ability couldn't keep up in the latter half of the match, and cited the main reasons as her body being in recovery due to a recent injury, and not being able to practice sufficiently.
Also, when looking back at this tournament, she stated that she had sufficiently fulfilled her role in the team event, and expressed no regrets about the mixed doubles or singles.
Furthermore, Sun, referring to reports that the next Asian Games would be in five years, reportedly made a statement hinting at her future career, saying, 'Five years is a bit too long; I might not be able to wait that long.'
Meanwhile, gold medalist Wang evaluated that she and Sun had displayed high-level play, and stated that her victory was due to Sun carrying an injury, adding, 'There's a lot to learn from Shasha (Sun). I am in the position of a challenger.'
Then, Wang, who won the same event for the first time in 8 years, showed her determination, saying, 'Eight years ago, I was still a young player, but now I need to bear more responsibility. Shasha and I will carry the burden of Chinese women's table tennis together.'
In response to this post, many praises were received from Chinese netizens, such as 'Both are the pride of China, and they have a wonderful relationship where they acknowledge each other,' and 'While we congratulate Wang, we also hope Sun can slowly recover her body and move forward.'
Meanwhile, some voices expressing concern for Sun's future were also seen, saying, 'My heart was squeezed by Sun's words, "I might not be able to wait that long."' (Edited and translated by Kawashiri)
