The Republican era suspense drama "I Am Not a Master," starring actor Li Xian (李現), has started streaming, and the large number of sponsor advertisements is also attracting attention.
"I Am Not a Master," co-starring Li Xian and actress Li Yitong (李一桐), began streaming on the 24th on video streaming services iQiyi (愛奇芸) and Tencent Video (騰訊視頻). By the first four episodes released on the opening day, a total of 35 sponsor advertisements, 20 on iQiyi and 15 on Tencent Video, were included, making it one of the top-performing dramas released this year. Following the strong advertising performance, particular attention is being paid to Li Xian's high commercial value.
The hit index on each platform is also steadily rising, with Tencent Video quickly surpassing 20,000 soon after streaming began. Viewers have praised the good pace of the story from the outset, with many saying there's a thrill in the deception and stratagems, indicating a strong start.
"I Am Not a Master" is a story set in the underworld of the Republican era, interweaving elements of metaphysics such as divination and feng shui into a suspenseful narrative. Shangguan Chengming (Li Xian), the son of a wealthy merchant family, loved Jiang Feiyan (Li Yitong), an actress from a theater troupe. However, it was revealed that not only was his fortune swindled, but even his love was a fabricated trap. Having lost everything due to someone's scheme, Shangguan Chengming delves into the underworld, transforming from a naive young master into a strategist who uncovers numerous plots and contends with adversaries.
This marks the third collaboration between Li Xian and Li Yitong, following "Sword Dynasty" in 2019 and "Go! Go! Prince's Unrequited Love" in 2021. A major highlight is also the depiction of Shangguan Chengming and Jiang Feiyan building their relationship through repeated stratagems and overcoming numerous trials where betrayal and love-hate intertwine.
