A Chinese blogger who was live-streaming in London's bustling Piccadilly Circus appears to have been assaulted.
A video posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo shows the man threatening in English, saying "Don't touch me," and pushing the other person's chest. The man explained the situation at the time, stating, "I was live-streaming at midnight in London's busiest street when several hooligans approached. I felt they had malicious intent, so I told them 'Don't come near me.' But they still came closer and bumped into my chest, so I blocked them with my hand."
He further mentioned, "During the scuffle, the other party made an inappropriate gesture (raising a middle finger) and then cursed Chinese people with the F-word. At that moment, I became completely enraged. There were thousands of viewers at the time. I simply could not tolerate being cursed as a Chinese person." He added that the assailants seemed to be targeting his watch, stating, "Although I was pushed to the ground 3-to-1, I managed to retrieve my watch. After that, they fled."
The man reported the incident to the police, but it is said that the police only took down his name and address and were reluctant to investigate it as a criminal case.
The man vented his frustration, saying, "The problem is that in London's busiest street, no one called the police, no one paid attention, and no one helped me. Think about it. What kind of society is this? A robbery and assault incident like this happened. It's highly likely they were armed. Is this a minor incident?"
Furthermore, in a subsequent video, he filmed himself visiting a hospital. It seems he had suffered a fracture, and the man declared, "I am compiling all the certificates (such as medical reports). I will submit them to the police. I will absolutely make this a criminal case." He added, "This incident involves discrimination, robbery, and more. I will thoroughly fight against these evil forces."
In response, Chinese netizens commented with remarks such as: "Is this a civilized society?", "Security in the UK seems terrible," "Wasn't it supposed to be a 'gentleman's country'?", "Judging from the video, the perpetrators appear to be North African or Middle Eastern," "London is a crime haven. It's better not to go," "A second-rate nation," "You should report it to the Chinese Embassy," and "China is safe after all."
Additionally, there is a strong belief in China that public institutions like the police favor foreigners, leading to comments like: "There's a big difference between how British police treat Chinese people and how Chinese police treat foreigners," and "Chinese police will desperately search if a Westerner just loses a bicycle." These comments garnered much empathy.
On the other hand, comments such as "It's because he was live-streaming on his own," "Good he got beaten," "He got what he deserved," and "As a Chinese influencer, if you try to use UK resources to increase your reach, there will be such risks," were also seen. (Translation/Editing by Kitada)
