A post on China's SNS Weibo, claiming that 'some Japanese people hold unrealistic images of Chinese people,' garnered a strong reaction.
The poster, a female Chinese blogger residing in Japan, shared the story of her 'slender and beautiful friend who married a Japanese man.' According to the story, the friend and her husband started dating at work and then got married. The two were also on good terms with their mutual boss, who had always wanted to visit the friend's home to be treated to a meal.
The boss apparently thought, 'Since she (the friend) is Chinese, she must surely make exquisite, authentic Chinese cuisine.' However, the friend was not good at cooking and hadn't cooked much even after getting married. Then one day, the boss was coming over and said, 'I want to eat her (the friend's) homemade cooking.'
The friend, racking her brain, somehow managed to make a few dishes. The boss, upon seeing the dishes lined up on the table, reportedly brightened his eyes and exclaimed excitedly, 'Oh~~~ Chinese food!' but after a few bites, silence enveloped the scene.
The female blogger commented, 'If it were a Japanese person, they might have offered a polite compliment like, 'Oh, what is this? I've never eaten it before. It has a very unique taste,' but apparently, not even that was said.' She recalled, 'By the way, when I visited this friend's house, what she served me for lunch was boiled corn. It was burnt.' She added, 'A person (friend) wouldn't be that thin without a reason.'
In response to this post, Chinese net users commented with phrases like: 'I laughed while reading this,' 'Too funny,' 'Funny but pathetic,' ''Since she's Chinese...' (lol),' 'That's the boss's unreasonable demand, right? (lol),' 'I feel like it's somewhat similar to the image that 'all Chinese people can do martial arts + use chairs to repel enemies,' 'The boss doesn't get it. Does a beautiful woman need to hone other skills?!' and 'She's thin and beautiful because she doesn't stand in the kitchen.'
Additionally, comments such as, 'What kind of food did she serve, anyway?', 'Normally, if you just copy a recipe from SNS, there shouldn't be such a big problem, right?', 'There are quite a few Chinese women who can't cook. When they're at home with their parents, their parents cook, and after marriage, either their husband cooks or they get delivery (※In Chinese households, it's often men who cook),' 'Could it be me? (I don't even have) seasonings at home. Hahahaha,' 'Completely understandable,' and 'She probably doesn't like to eat,' were also received.
