In China, the '3 essential items' that university freshmen prepare before enrollment have significantly increased in price.
Among university freshmen in China, who will start the new semester in September, smartphones, tablet PCs, and personal computers have become the three essential items to prepare before enrollment. However, compared to previous years, this year, some popular digital devices, even products with similar specifications, have significantly increased in price.
When interviewing a computer sales shop in a digital device market on Zhujiang Road, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, computers for students were displayed in the store. A sales staff member said, "A computer that was 4299 yuan (approximately 100,000 yen) was raised to 5399 yuan (approximately 127,000 yen), and then increased again to 5999 yuan (approximately 140,000 yen). The price of this model of computer has been adjusted many times since the beginning of this year, and the price has gone up by more than 1000 yuan (approximately 23,500 yen)."
During the interview, several computer sales staff members explained that "the recent increase in computer prices is related to the market prices of upstream industrial components such as memory and Central Processing Units (CPUs)." One sales staff member explained, "In recent years, demand for high-performance memory products for AI servers has significantly increased, and memory manufacturers have started to invest more resources into related products. The consumer memory market is also being affected by this. When CPUs and memory increase in price, computers and other devices also increase in price accordingly." Smartphones, tablet PCs, and personal computers also require memory chips. It is said that when the market prices of upstream industrial memory products change, the product prices of end manufacturers will also be affected.
