In Beijing, China, there was an incident where a gold bar (ingot) went missing from the home of a 75-year-old man living alone. This was reported by Chinese media Beijing Weishi.

According to reports, Mr. Wang (Wang) had employed a live-in housekeeper for six months starting in 2024, but because the housekeeper found another job, the live-in arrangement was dissolved, and she began working as a part-time housekeeper at Mr. Wang's home.

One day in February this year, a year after that, Mr. Wang informed the housekeeper via a chat app, boasting that he had "bought a gold bar." Mr. Wang reportedly purchased a 200-gram bar for approximately 250,000 yuan (about 5.9 million yen).

Later, when the housekeeper visited Mr. Wang's home, Mr. Wang took a bath with the gold bar still in his pant pocket. The housekeeper was tidying up Mr. Wang's discarded clothes, but when she saw the gold bar slip out of the pants, she picked it up and put it in her own pocket.

Around 2:00 PM on the same day, as the housekeeper was about to leave Mr. Wang's home, saying she was "going to another job," Mr. Wang fumbled in his pocket to check for the gold bar, but it wasn't there. Mr. Wang stopped the housekeeper, prevented her from leaving, and reported the incident to the police.

Responding police officers searched inside the house and the housekeeper's belongings, but the gold bar was not found. So, when they checked the security camera footage in front of Mr. Wang's house, it was discovered that before Mr. Wang noticed the gold bar was missing, the housekeeper had taken the gold bar, saying she was "going to charge her electric bicycle," and placed it in the front basket of her electric bicycle along with some clothes.

The housekeeper, suspect Sun (Sun), reportedly stated during questioning, "I only hid it as a joke. I intended to return it if he asked for it back. But he insisted on calling the police and wouldn't listen, so I said, 'Then go ahead and call the police.'" (Translation/Editing by Kitada)
