Singaporean media Lianhe Zaobao reported on the 5th that more than one in three electric vehicles (EVs) newly sold in South Korea in the first half of this year were Chinese-made.
According to a report by South Korea's Yonhap News conveyed by the article, a report released by the Korea Automobile Mobility Industry Association (KAMA) on the 4th showed that 69,513 newly registered Chinese-made EVs in South Korea in the first half of this year represented a 178.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
The significant increase in sales of Chinese-made EVs is attributed to the increased imports of Model Y and Model 3 produced at Tesla's Shanghai factory. Additionally, Chinese brands such as BYD and Polestar are believed to be strengthening their expansion into the South Korean market.
According to a report by China News Service on the 4th, the number of vehicles delivered by Tesla's Shanghai factory in July exceeded 93,000 units, setting a new monthly record for this year. This represents an increase of 37.8% year-on-year and 5% month-on-month.
