According to Chinese media outlet China Newsweek, two women sued a hospital in Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province, claiming they were 'switched 37 years ago'.

The hospital being sued is Qingyuan City People's Hospital, established in 1939. Li Hui and Huang Xiaolin (both pseudonyms) were born here on October 3, 1989, and the difference in their birth times was 55 minutes.

The two, who were mistakenly switched, were each raised in the other's family, with Li dropping out of school early to work and support her family. Meanwhile, Huang grew up with little family affection and had reportedly always harbored doubts about her birth.

Huang's adoptive parents divorced in 1994, and Huang initially lived with her adoptive father. However, feeling a lack of interest in her, she later went to live with her adoptive mother.

Huang's blood type is O, while her adoptive father's is A. According to Huang, her adoptive father suspected his wife (Huang's adoptive mother) of infidelity. However, in 2022, to resolve years of estrangement with her adoptive father, Huang underwent a paternity test, which revealed she had no biological relation to either her adoptive father or adoptive mother.

Meanwhile, Li only learned she was not biologically related to her parents 25 years later.

The two claim they were switched due to negligence by the medical staff at the time, and are seeking compensation for emotional damages, medical expenses, legal fees, and other costs. The total amount requested exceeds 2.6 million yuan (approximately 60 million yen). The trial is scheduled to be held on the 13th of this month.

When another Chinese media outlet inquired with the hospital about this matter, the responding staff member stated, 'I am not aware of the situation,' and provided contact information for the relevant department. However, that phone number could not be reached.
