Taiwanese media China Times (Chinatimes.com) reported on the 21st that "a Taiwanese woman's heartwarming act touched a Japanese couple."
According to the article, a Japanese traveler recently posted in Japanese and Chinese on the Facebook group "Japan-Taiwan Exchange Club" about an incident that occurred while traveling in Taiwan with his wife. According to the post, as the couple was returning from Taichung to Taipei using the Taiwan High-Speed Rail, a Taiwanese woman in her 20s sitting next to them suddenly gave them two taro pastries as a gift when getting off at Banqiao Station, one stop before Taipei Main Station.
The woman reportedly showed them a screen on her smartphone displaying in Japanese, "These are famous pastries from Changhua. Have a pleasant trip!" The couple reportedly could only manage to say "Arigato" (thank you) in Japanese to the woman who was hastily getting off. Afterwards, when the train started moving, they reportedly spotted the woman who had gotten off standing on the platform, smiling and waving at them, and the couple also waved back with a smile from inside the train.
The couple took the pastries back to Japan and, recalling the woman's hospitality, said they "enjoyed them deliciously." Since they hadn't exchanged contact information, although they couldn't thank the woman directly, they wrote of their desire to "provide hospitality that creates equally good memories for Taiwanese travelers visiting Japan in the future."
To this post, comments were received from internet users such as 'Many Taiwanese really do things like this,' 'If I were in her shoes, I'd do the same,' 'Taiwanese truly have this kind of warmth,' 'This is a model of Taiwan-Japan friendship,' and 'Please come visit Taiwan again!'
