Taiwanese media ETtoday reported on the 8th that a Japanese B&B owner expressed surprise at a room after Taiwanese guests checked out.

According to the article, an owner running a B&B in Saga Prefecture recently posted on the social media platform Threads, saying, "I've realized something since I started running a B&B. I always thought it was normal for rooms to be messy. Until I welcomed many Taiwanese travelers."

They continued, stating that the guest rooms after Taiwanese guests checked out were always very neatly arranged, chairs were returned to their original positions, trash was properly gathered, and used items were tidied up, adding, "Sometimes I even wonder, 'Did someone actually stay here?'"

The owner explained that while they understand not all travelers are the same (in terms of tidiness), "I've been repeatedly impressed by Taiwanese travelers over the past few months. That's why I get happy every time a reservation comes from Taiwan." They also expressed their desire to welcome many Taiwanese people to Saga this summer.

In response to this post, Taiwanese netizens reportedly commented, "We're just thinking from the other person's perspective. We hope the cleaning staff won't feel unpleasant seeing a messy room when they open it, and that they can clean a little easier," and "When checking out, I make sure to return desks and chairs to their original positions, always gather trash in the trash can without leaving it on the floor, and return used towels to the bathroom."

Furthermore, comments such as, "That being said, not all Taiwanese people are like that. If you encounter someone with bad manners, please be lenient," "It really depends on the individual. I only gather the trash; I don't tidy up the futon," and "There are also Taiwanese people with bad manners. Just one person can erase the impression of 100 good Taiwanese guests, and (if you encounter them) you'll surely be surprised," were also reportedly posted.

Additionally, comments like, "Taiwanese travelers are so well-mannered that sometimes the room cleaning staff tells them, 'Please don't clean it up so thoroughly. We won't know what has been used, then,'" and "Some B&Bs decide whether to replace bedding based on whether there are signs of use, so I try to leave it in a state where it's clear it's been used," were also seen.
