On July 1, 2026, a post on China's SNS Xiaohongshu (RED) stating "I encountered a flawless masterpiece" garnered a huge response from Chinese netizens.
The work praised as a "masterpiece" by the poster is "Attack on Titan". The poster wrote, "I haven't watched a single new anime for 12 years. Yet, why did I encounter such a wonderful anime now, just before turning 30? It is truly a flawless masterpiece. The ending of the anime was especially the best. For someone like me who doesn't care about spoilers, knowing the ending beforehand and then slowly savoring the process was irresistible."
They continued, "While there is a heart-wrenching pain, there is also happiness; while my heart burns passionately, I am also healed; while feeling suffering, I enjoy all of it from the bottom of my heart. I feel like I won't be able to enjoy other anime anymore. It's rare to encounter a work that is so complete in every aspect and has almost no flaws."
Furthermore, they mentioned, "I believe that all the opening themes (OPs), ending themes (EDs), and background music (BGM) of 'Attack on Titan' throughout its history were major factors that made this work a masterpiece. Why are all those songs so wonderful? Is there anyone who understands the shock I felt when I first heard 'Shogeki', the ED for Season 4, Marley Arc? I never thought such a divine ED could exist."
In response to this post, Chinese netizens expressed their agreement, saying, "Exactly! 'Shogeki' is a god-tier ending song. That feeling of faint hope amidst despair, mixed with helplessness and expectation, is just irresistible." Some users also reflected, "I started watching this week too and binged up to Season 3 in a few days. I plan to watch Season 4 this weekend. But I think it was just right to watch it at my current age. If I had watched it when I was younger, there would have been many parts I couldn't understand, and I don't think it would have left such a deep impression."
Furthermore, comments like, "I'm 31, but I'm really glad I watched it to the end at my current age, not 10 years ago. 10 years ago, I dropped out after watching Season 1. At the time, my reasons were that the protagonist was annoying, the depiction was too cruel, or Captain Levi was too cool. But now, all I see is the work's wonder and greatness. I want to analyze every single frame of the battle scenes, and I've learned to form my own interpretations and impressions without being swayed by simple evaluations like 'Awesome!' or 'Boring!'. I truly feel it's thanks to gaining life experience," were also seen.
Other comments included, "I'm also really glad I watched it at 31. It was just the right age to understand what the work wanted to convey. I've watched it 6 times already, but I still cry heavily every time," and "I just started watching this month too. Lately, I've been watching and crying, then after finishing, watching analysis videos and character explanations and crying again, and then listening to the music collection and empathizing with comments while crying again."
