In Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China, a large fish tank installed in an office suddenly burst, and more than ten ornamental fish died. The owner reportedly cooked and ate the dead ornamental fish out of curiosity. This was reported by the Chinese media outlet Yangcheng Evening News.

According to Du (Doo), a friend of the fish tank owner, the large fish tank in the office was big enough to hold 4 tons of water, and high-end ornamental fish had been kept in it for about 5 years. The breakdown was 8 Asian arowanas measuring 60-65 cm in length, 3 Datnioides, 2 Polka Dot Stingrays, and 1 Satan Fish. The total value of the ornamental fish was said to exceed 300,000 yuan (approximately 7 million yen).

The fish tank burst around 6:00 AM, and no one was in the office at the time; it was discovered by someone who arrived at work around 8:00 AM. The cause was reportedly the deterioration of the adhesive. Security cameras in the office showed the fish tank suddenly bursting and the ornamental fish overflowing with the water. Fortunately, a complete loss was avoided, and 1 Asian arowana, 1 Polka Dot Stingray, and 3 Datnioides survived in the flooded office.

Afterwards, the owner became curious about the taste of ornamental fish and called Du and other fellow enthusiasts to cook and eat two of the deceased fish. Du commented, "It wasn't tasty. Ornamental fish don't exercise much, so their flesh quality isn't good." However, his companions were positive, reportedly joking, "We just ate a luxurious meal worth hundreds of thousands of yuan."

Chinese netizens posted comments such as: "Ornamental fish aren't meant to be eaten, are they?", "He raised them for a long time, how could he eat them?", "They were pets he kept for several years.
