The opening ceremony of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival, co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, took place on the evening of June 13 at the Shanghai Grand Theater. This film festival is held under the guidance of the National Film Administration.
For this film festival, a record-breaking approximately 4,100 film submissions were received from 125 countries and regions. The works nominated for this year's main competition and documentary categories are all world premieres.
Yu Junsheng, Vice President of CMG, stated at the opening ceremony, "As a participant who has witnessed, recorded, and contributed to the development of Chinese cinema, CMG hopes to work with the film industry both inside and outside China to tell diverse and wonderful stories of our time, and to weave together a poem where various forms of beauty coexist."
The festival will run for 10 days, featuring events such as the selection of the Golden Goblet Awards (the main competition category), Golden Goblet Forums, special screenings, presentations on AI filmmaking, and cinema salons. During the festival, more than 1,500 screenings will be held, showcasing over 420 foreign films. In conjunction with the "70th Anniversary of China-Egypt Diplomatic Relations" and the "China-Brazil Cultural Year," special events such as an Egyptian Film Week, screenings themed "Focus on Brazil," and a "Belt and Road" Film Week will also be held.
