On September 9th, a question was posted on China's SNS Xiaohongshu (RED) asking 'What is the most unacceptable Japanese culture in Japan?', and over 1,500 responses were received.
The most liked (heart mark) response was 'No photography at live concerts.' However, a counter-argument was posted, stating, '(Live concerts in Japan) are really good. If it weren't for that (no photography), everyone would be holding up their smartphones,' and this received more likes than the original comment.
Next, the opinion that received many likes was 'having to carry cash when going out.' But regarding this, a counter-argument was posted, 'Isn't it more comfortable to have cash? The feeling of paying is good,' and this also received many likes.
Other opinions that gathered support included: 'Greetings that never end,' 'Sharing bathwater with family,' 'Culture of women pursuing a thin physique,' 'Garbage separation. Too scary,' 'I don't know if it's culture, but the wife apologizing when the husband has an affair (e.g., celebrities),' 'Soaking in a hot spring completely naked. Too awkward,' 'Many of the desired restaurants only accept reservations for two or more people,' 'Prohibition of eating while walking,' and 'False-sounding and overly long honorific language.'
