A runner practicing on the athletic track of a stadium in Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, had an accident, colliding with a girl who suddenly entered the track.
The footage filmed at the scene shows a runner who started from the starting position in a low stance, colliding violently, after running about 10 meters, with a 5-6 year old girl who suddenly appeared on the track, and both fell to the ground.
The runner involved, Huang (Hoan), explained, 'We were starting one by one in order. I didn't notice the girl. She suddenly appeared in front of me, and that's how it happened.' He added, 'My knee hit [the girl]. Part of the girl's body was red.'
He also said, 'I hit my head on the ground, and my neck swelled and hurt. After that, I felt dizzy and nauseous, so I went to the hospital for an examination, and they told me it was a mild concussion.' He added, 'I wish parents would keep a close eye on their children. The track is for running, and it's dangerous.'
Chinese netizens commented, 'This is dangerous,' 'It's because the girl's parents weren't watching her,' 'The track is not a playground!' 'Why is there a child here?' 'No one could avoid something like this,' 'The girl has no capacity for responsibility, so her guardians should compensate the runner,' and 'This is what happens when you don't keep your "dog" on a leash.'
Regarding the opening of school grounds to the public in China, some said, 'Therefore, it's better to stop opening school grounds. Students (who practice sports) are truly getting the short end of the stick.' Others questioned, 'Are they still going to continue opening university grounds after this?' and 'I sincerely believe there are problems with opening school grounds.' Many such comments were made.
