On China's SNS Xiaohongshu (RED) on the 7th, a post stating, "'Danshari' was Japanese, after all!?" drew a big reaction.

The poster expressed their surprise, saying, "Am I the only one who just found out now? Just now, when I was shopping on Mercari, I saw 'Danshari-chu' written in the profile of a Japanese seller. This kanji suddenly appeared within Japanese, and since it's also a word often used on the Chinese internet, I became curious and looked it up, and it turned out to be a Japanese word after all!" They added, "But the meaning of the kanji is the same (as in Chinese). It's kind of interesting."

To this post, nearly 4,000 comments were received from Chinese internet users, with a flurry of comments listing words of Japanese origin, such as: "'Shinyu' (close friend), 'nan(no)imi' (what meaning), 'shomikigen' (best-before date) and others are also of Japanese origin"; "'Shinyu' has a slightly different meaning though. In Chinese, it means 'relatives and friends,' but in Japanese, it means 'close friend'"; "'Shashin' (photo) is actually Japanese too"; "'Shachiku' (corporate slave) and 'gyakushu' (counterattack) no longer feel out of place even when they appear in daily life (in China)"; "'Tsukin' (commuting) too"; "'Boso' (running wild) and such"; "'More than friends, less than lovers'"; "(Chinese) internet slang 'KY' also came from Japanese. It means 'cannot read the atmosphere (situation)'"; "'Zannen' (regrettable) is also Japanese? I feel like the pronunciation is similar"; "Also, 'yan zhi' (face value, face index) is also true, isn't it?"

In addition, over 4,000 likes (heart marks) gathered on a comment stating, "Reading this comment section, my worldview keeps getting updated. I'm shocked that so many words were of Japanese origin." Other comments received included: "That's right. Not a few words are imported from Japan and used"; "People studying Japanese know that many of China's internet slang words come from Japanese"; "You guys should study more. Do you know how many words entered (China) from Japan in modern times? Go look it up"; and "It seems many people are truly ignorant. China's modern society was built upon Western systems and institutions, and its pop culture emerged by fusing with Japanese culture.
