German media Deutsche Welle (Chinese version) reported on the 7th that many citizens are skeptical about whether the German national team can win the Soccer World Cup (W杯) North/Central America tournament.
With the opening of the World Cup (W杯) approaching on June 11, expectations for the German national team, ranked 10th in FIFA and boasting four past championships, are growing daily. However, according to a public opinion survey conducted by German public broadcaster ZDF targeting 1274 German citizens from the 1st to the 3rd of this month, the majority of German citizens seem to believe that the chances of winning are low.
The percentage of respondents who said the German national team could win this tournament was only 15%, while 72% answered that they could not win. On the other hand, although the German national team was eliminated in the group stage in both of the past two tournaments, only a very small number of people expect a similar result in this tournament, with only 3% believing they would be eliminated before advancing to the Round of 16.
Furthermore, 15% predicted elimination in the Round of 16, 33% predicted elimination in the quarterfinals, 15% predicted elimination in the semifinals, and 2% predicted a loss in the final.
The German national team will face Curaçao in their first group stage match on the 14th, Côte d'Ivoire on the 20th, and Ecuador on the 25th. (Translation/Editing: Kitada)
