Canadian Prime Minister Carney met with Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister, in Ottawa on May 29, local time. Prime Minister Carney asked Foreign Minister Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to the Chinese leadership, stating, "When I visited China at the beginning of the year, I decided, together with the Chinese leadership, to establish a new strategic partnership between Canada and China. In the subsequent four months, exchanges at various levels and the resumption of cooperation in various fields between the two countries have accelerated and yielded results." He then added, "Canada, together with China, hopes to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in areas such as energy, finance, and agriculture and fisheries, and continuously strengthen the foundation of bilateral relations." He also stated, "Canada supports China in hosting the APEC Informal Leaders' Meeting, and together with China, hopes to advocate and practice multilateralism and contribute to the development of the global economy and world peace and stability." In response, Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed greetings from the Chinese leadership to Prime Minister Carney. He said, "The decision by the leaders of both countries to establish a new strategic partnership between Canada and China provides strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. The improvement of relations between China and Canada aligns with the interests of both countries and meets the expectations of various countries, and facts have proven that it is the correct choice for the Canadian side." He further stated, "There are no fundamental conflicts of interest between the two countries, and there is immense room for cooperation. China is willing to work with Canada to respect each other, seek common ground while reserving differences, strengthen communication, deepen cooperation, and promote the sound, stable, and sustainable development of bilateral relations."
