China's first '100-million-unit scale automobile manufacturer' has been born.
SAIC Motor announced on May 28 that with the delivery of its 100-millionth vehicle, it has become the first automobile manufacturer in the history of China's automotive industry to surpass 100 million units in cumulative production and sales. The emergence of the first '100-million-unit scale automobile manufacturer' signifies that China's automotive industry, starting from scratch, has achieved a new milestone over 70 years, evolving from a small and weak presence to a powerful one.
The development of SAIC Motor embodies the open approach of Chinese enterprises in connecting with the world, fostering cooperation and win-win outcomes. From SAIC-VW and SAIC-GM, which were hallmarks of joint venture model introductions in China's automotive industry, to the overseas acquisition of the British brand MG, and further to co-launching smart electric vehicle (EV) brands with global partners, the group has not only been a pioneer in joint venture collaborations among Chinese automakers but also a trailblazer in paving the way for Chinese-made automobile brands to expand overseas.
SAIC Motor currently boasts over 100 parts production bases and more than 3,000 dealer networks abroad. Its products and services are already distributed across more than 170 countries and regions worldwide. The company has established three major R&D and innovation centers in places like London, and four production and manufacturing centers in Thailand, Indonesia, India, and Pakistan. The group's overseas market sales volume in 2025 reached 1,071,000 units, marking a 3.1% year-on-year increase, and its cumulative overseas sales have surpassed 7 million units. (Source/CGTN Japanese)
