Prefabricated houses manufactured in China are now gaining popularity overseas. According to Guangzhou Customs in Guangdong Province, which made an announcement on the 27th, the export value of mobile and assembled buildings by enterprises under its jurisdiction from January to April reached 1.4 billion yuan (approximately 32.9 billion yen), a 38.1% increase year-on-year.
Prefabricated houses are built by breaking down a house into several independent modules, which are then pre-assembled, structured, wired, and decorated in a factory, followed by inspection. These modules are then transported to the site and can be used immediately after assembly. Compared to traditional houses, they have outstanding advantages such as a shorter construction cycle, greater consideration for energy saving and environmental protection, and high adaptability, and are gaining popularity in the construction industries both within and outside China.
Zhaoqing Customs, under Guangzhou Customs, conducted customs inspections for prefabricated houses weighing approximately 431 tons to be sold in Hong Kong. This is the 79th prefabricated house export case handled by Zhaoqing Customs since the beginning of this year. The export value of prefabricated houses handled by Zhaoqing Customs from January to April reached 260 million yuan (approximately 6.11 billion yen).
Pang Mingyuan, president of Foshan Meizong Housing Technology, explained, 'Prefabricated houses are gaining recognition in overseas markets such as Australia and New Zealand. Local traditional construction has faced significant challenges, including high labor costs, long construction cycles, susceptibility to weather conditions, and a shortage of housing resources in remote areas. With prefabricated houses, over 90% of the process can be completed in the factory beforehand, making new building construction as simple as assembling 'building blocks', and the delivery period is one-third of that for traditional buildings. Our products have entered markets in Australia, the Americas, Europe, and other regions, and we have completed over 20 overseas projects to date.'
