Xinjiang's external power transmission volume this year exceeded 60 billion kWh.
According to the Xinjiang Power Exchange Center, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's cumulative external power transmission volume this year exceeded the 60 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh) mark, reaching 60.14 billion kWh. Of this, power transmitted from new energy sources was 19.39 billion kWh, accounting for over 32.2% of the total. It is injecting new impetus from Xinjiang into the nation's stable energy supply and green transformation, reported China News Service.
Xinjiang is a core power transmission hub designated by the state as part of the '3 bases, 1 route' and 'West-to-East Power Transmission' (transmitting electricity generated in western regions to eastern regions), and is rich in wind and solar resources, with resource volumes ranking among the top nationwide for both. Since the beginning of 2026, Xinjiang's external power transmission has shown a positive development trend of stable growth in total volume, an increasing proportion of green electricity, and an expanding transmission range. In the first quarter (January-March), Xinjiang's external power transmission volume reached 40.08 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 23.42%, setting a new record. The transmission range extends to 23 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country, and for the first time, power transmission to the eastern power grid of Inner Mongolia was also realized, continuously expanding the transmission area. Upon entering the second quarter (April-June), new energy power generation from wind and solar in Xinjiang entered its peak season. State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power accurately grasps the characteristics of power generation and inter-provincial power demand, and by optimizing the operation and adjustment of the power grid, continuously improves the consumption capacity of new energy and its external transmission capacity. Currently, new energy is the main driver of the increase in Xinjiang's external power transmission volume.
According to statistics, since Xinjiang began external power transmission in 2010, the cumulative transmission volume has exceeded 1 trillion kWh. Of this, new energy power transmission exceeded 300 billion kWh, accounting for nearly 30% of the total. This is equivalent to a reduction of 249 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, strongly supporting pollution reduction, carbon reduction, and air quality improvement in China's central and eastern regions.
