In Shaanxi Province, China, an incident occurred where a husband beat his wife, knocked her unconscious, and then dropped her from a cliff (earthen cliff), causing her death. Chinese media outlet Da Xiang News reported this on the 25th.

According to reports, the incident took place in Yongshou County, Xianyang City, in the same province. The victim, Ms. Miao Miao, was killed by her husband, the defendant Zhang, on December 24, 2024. Just 13 days prior, a divorce lawsuit filed by Ms. Miao Miao had been dismissed by a local court.

According to the indictment, on the day of the incident, the defendant Zhang assaulted Ms. Miao Miao for a long time in front of her rented residence in Xi'an. He repeatedly slapped Ms. Miao Miao's face, struck her head, stomped on her head, and repeatedly hit her head against a concrete pillar. After Ms. Miao Miao lost consciousness, the defendant Zhang drove her to Mayuanggou. Believing Ms. Miao Miao was dead, the defendant Zhang threw her down a cliff several tens of meters high by the roadside. It is also said that the defendant Zhang's elder sister was present at the scene.

Ms. Miao Miao's elder sister said, "For 9 years of their marriage, he continuously subjected her to violence. There were times when he took out a kitchen knife and threatened my mother and nephew. My sister couldn't bear it anymore and filed for divorce, but he refused. He used to say, 'While alive, she's one of us; even in death, she's one of us.' My sister tried to hide, but he still found her."

She then pleaded, "We want him to atone with his life. If he had just said, 'I don't want this person (my sister) anymore,' even if she became bedridden or fell into a vegetative state, our family would have taken care of her. My sister still had a chance to live after the assault, but he took that opportunity away."

Ms. Miao Miao's elder brother revealed, "I still don't understand why the other family is so cruel. They even spread groundless slander about our family, saying things like 'they are trying to remarry Miao Miao to get a betrothal gift.'" He also said, "The other family told us, 'Miao Miao is already dead, so please forgive him. There are two children.' We don't want them to use the children as an excuse. Our only wish is for him to receive the death penalty. We don't want any compensation either."

According to Ms. Miao Miao's father, on the day of the incident, the defendant Zhang appeared at Ms. Miao Miao's parents' home and repeatedly urged, "Bring Miao Miao back quickly. If you bring her back, I will divorce her." However, by that time, Ms. Miao Miao had already been thrown down the cliff by the defendant Zhang.
