The "popularity index" for the suspense-adventure drama "Jiumen," which was launched by Chinese video streaming giant Youku (YOUKU) on July 30, surpassed 10,000 in just 50 hours after its release. This is the fastest record for a Youku drama released in 2026 and the fourth fastest among all Youku's historical works.

The drama garnered attention even before its release, with pre-bookings on the platform exceeding 6 million. It began streaming with high expectations.

In addition to surpassing a popularity index of 10,000 within 50 hours of its release, "Jiumen" also topped the daily viewing rankings of "Lighthouse Data" (a drama and film data analysis app). On its second day of streaming, the total views exceeded 50 million. Furthermore, its market share, according to "Yunhe Data" (a Chinese entertainment data service), was 14.3% on the first day and rose to 22% the following day. It also consistently ranked first in major rankings, including "Maoyan Pro" (a film and drama data analysis app)'s full-network popularity ranking, achieving excellent results across various metrics.

This work was personally written by the original author Nanpai Sanshu, known for "The Lost Tomb" series, and directed by Bai Shan (柏杉), who previously worked on "Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty." It incorporates multi-camera filming and staging utilizing rotating real-life sets, creating an adventure drama that combines traditional Chinese eerie aesthetics with a high level of immersion. The ensemble cast of unique characters and the continuously tense storyline are also highly praised.

At a promotional event held on August 2, in addition to the lead actors, the original author and director also appeared on stage and interacted with fans. Lead actors Zeng Shunxi (曾舜晞) and William Chan (陳偉霆) performed an impromptu skit using Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai, English, and French, greatly enlivening the venue.
